Following Big Tech’s unanimous decision the other day to pull all footage of the America’s Frontline Doctors (AFD) “White Coat Summit” event from its respective platforms, LifeSiteNews created a petition to break up the Big Tech monopoly that quickly went viral.
In less than two days, this LifeSite petition – you can sign it here – has garnered nearly 50,000 signatures. It calls on Congress to take swift action in breaking up the Silicon Valley stranglehold over free speech and the First Amendment.
“Since Big Tech has now started to censor news and opinion, it’s clear that more competition – not monopoly – is needed on the internet,” says Gualberto Garcia Jones, LifeSite‘s director of advocacy. “Big Tech needs to be broken up so that competition of ideas can flourish again in America.”
In case you missed it, the AFD event was quickly censored after its doctors, including the now-famous Dr. Stella Immanuel, spoke out in favor of health freedom.
For daring to mention hydroxychloroquine and zinc, both of which have shown incredible success in treating Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) patients, AFD has seen its online presence drop to almost zero, thanks to Big Tech censorship.
“Big Tech’s policy, which entails the censorship of legitimate news and opinion, is seriously undermining free speech and democracy itself,” LifeSite contends.
In its petition, LifeSite calls on the government to use existing antitrust laws to break up companies like Facebook, Twitter, and Google for their relentless efforts to stifle online free speech.
In addition to conspiring to “erase from the internet” the AFD White Coat Summit event, these tech platforms have implemented entire systems internally to crack down on “wrongthink,” including by limiting what users are able to pull up in internet searches.
“Recently, at Facebook, two whistleblowers came forward to attest that the platform aggressively discriminates against conservatives on a global scale for the purpose of influencing election outcomes,” the petition adds.
Likewise, Twitter has been the subject of “numerous free speech controversies for years,” it further explains, including an announcement made back in March that Twitter would be cracking down on “misinformation” concerning the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19).
Back in 2018, Google, YouTube and other tech platforms conspired to manipulate the results of the Irish abortion referendum by blacklisting pro-life videos and manipulating pro-life search terms.
All of this and more represents a direct assault on the First Amendment, and something that must be stopped if free speech is to have any chance at surviving in this new digital reality.
“Of course, we believe that people are capable of sorting through opinion and news themselves. However, we cannot accept Big Tech stepping in to censor what opinion and news is available,” Garcia Jones further states.
“Regrettably, Big Tech must now be broken up if legitimate free speech is going to survive and continue to thrive on the internet.”
The good news is that most Americans, including folks from both sides of the aisle, agree that Big Tech censorship is completely out of control. A whopping 75 percent of them responded to a Pew poll indicating that Silicon Valley has too much influence over society, and that something needs to be done to ensure that people’s free speech rights are not getting trampled by tyrant extremists.
“This petition calls on policymakers to be level-headed in this regard and use existing laws against monopolies to start the process of breaking up Big Tech,” LifeSite says.
